Greetings from The Neighborhood Farm!
This rainy weather is driving us crazy. The crops are not happy -
they need some sun to photosynthesize. Everything is in a holding
pattern, waiting for the sun. Wednesday was a lovely break in rain,
especially since it was on our market day, but now we need some more
sun.
Those of you with gardens might be noticing that your own plants
look a bit unhappy right now. They might be yellowing, the tomatoes
might be showing signs of viruses, etc. With so much rain, the
nutrients get washed through the soil more quickly, so many plants
are showing signs of nutrient deficiency. Even with all the
beautiful
Ideal Compost we added to our gardens, our plants are still
stressed. We use a foliar feed of a liquid, organic fertilizer. We
apply it with a sprayer, spraying the leaves of the plants, allowing
them to absorb the nutrients directly. Neptune's
Harvest is a great brand of organic, liquid fertilizers. Just make
sure you wear old clothes when you apply it - it smells like low
tide.
On the plus side, this cool, rainy weather has allowed the lettuce
to get established, so we are offering salad mix again this week.
